Every single session at HBI 2024 will feature case studies, crucial market data or insights that you can immediately take away and use to improve your investment, growth strategy or digital transformation strategy – in many cases, you will find all three.

Investment and M&A

The investment landscape in healthcare remains robust and stable but investor appetite is changing and new players, specialised groups are entering the market. On the property side, there are opportunities to redevelop urban areas and modernise facilities as how and where healthcare is delivered is changing. Regulation and changes in payor models and patient demand have opened up the market. But which sectors suit which investors? What and where are the new national and international consolidation opportunities? And is buy and build still the right strategy to pursue?

New Business Models

With the pandemic firmly in our rear-view mirror, the experimentation that it forced combined with gigantic leaps forward in technology and a shift in mindset from patient to consumer is setting the stage for fundamental change. This change requires new business, operational, financial and delivery models to be successful and most importantly sustainable. So what are the winning models for the new era and how do we avoid the pitfalls and getting the model wrong?

Innovation, Digitalisation and AI

Healthcare is risk-averse and has therefore historically been slow to innovate, it hasn’t changed a great deal since the 1920s. Technology is transforming delivery, productivity, access and patient outcomes.  Data, which healthcare companies have been sitting on for decades not knowing what to do with is starting to show huge value, from prevention and personalising patient pathways to massive efficiency and productivity gains. AI is only just in its nascent stages but will change the face of delivery, lower costs and free up time. Questions remain about how to finance transformation, what technologies to adopt and how to scale innovation across an organisation or health system.

Workforce and Leadership

The biggest challenge for any healthcare CEO and for their investors is attracting and retaining good talent. The right people can make or break an organisation and competing for talent is more important than ever. How do organisations build cultures that make people want to stay? What does it take to be a good leader? How do you drive change in organisations? And what role does technology play?

Sustainability and Impact

Healthcare is a sector that has long stood on the sidelines of environmental sustainability, serving an important social purpose it is already ‘doing its bit’. But serving a social purpose is no longer independent from an environmental purpose, especially when it contributes nearly 5% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, twice that of the airline industry.  The challenge for organisations along the entire healthcare value chain is; where do we start and how do we measure what we are doing by the same parameters?

Payors and Regulation

Healthcare is incredibly regulated and for good reason but this can be a big barrier to entry for investors or innovation in the sector. But when new drugs, treatments and technologies are approved, the potential to revolutionise quality and access to care is enormous. Funding is essential to ensure innovation and new technologies are sustainable. New drugs and treatments are incredibly expensive at first until economies of scale can be reached. Understanding this environment is critical for success for all healthcare organisations.

You have payors to public to private to hospitals, from ophthalmology to dentistry to general practitioners and down to diagnostics. In one day you can have 3-5 meetings with C-suite executives. This would take you months to get all these meetings done.
